Another great day in St. Martin

As I've mentioned before, one of the things that I truly enjoy is talking to other artist, visiting their studios and hearing how they think, learning about their process.
Again, recently, Virginia and I were in St. Martin (St. Martin is the smallest island in the world ever to have been partitioned between two different nations. St. Maarten/St. Martin has been shared by the French and Dutch in a spirit of neighborly cooperation and usual friendship for around 350 years). and stopped by the gallery and atelier of artist, Sir Roland Richardson and his wife, Laura. they are indeed a delightful couple. Very gracious! It was great to see them again.

Laura Richardson is a renowned poet and Sir Roland is the Father of Caribbean Expressionism. As we arrived, we talked to Laura for a while and she informed us that sir Roland was upstairs with a group of students. While we wandered out in the garden looking at the flower garden, Sir Roland spotted us and invited us to come upstairs. He showed us some of his paintings and discussed his views on color. He talked at length about his process. He paints everything, EVERYTHING, "plain aire."

If you ever get to Marigot, stop in. you will certainly enjoy meeting them. Also. stop at one of the great French patisseries and enjoy some pastries. petit dejuener.  In past times, I would have suggested that you have lunch at La vie en Rose, but sadly, it has closed.

Check out videos of Sir Roland on YouTube.
This video was taken early this year while we were visiting with Sir Roland and Laura.
