McAfee's Station

Here is a painting I just completed and delivered last week.

The customer is a decedent of the McAfee’s. 
Now it seems like his relatives want on too.

Last year before the CLA, I went down to McAfee just north of Harrodsburg

 and south of Lexington and did the research on where the station was. 

Got a good look at the lay of the land and took dozens of photos. 

Presently, on the site, there is a stone house that was built in 1790, 

just 5 years after the station was abandoned. 

I talked to the owners and will deliver them a print of this

 just before the upcoming CLA. 

It is ink and watercolor on laid paper.

Capt. Stede Bonnet's journal account of his sighting a mermaid

Stede Bonnet was a wealthy plantation owner in Barbados. 

Apparently got tired of that, he bought himself a ship
 and became a pirate. 

Albeit for a short time, He and his ship were captured by Blackbeard. 

A few moths later Bonnet was taken prisoner and hung in
Charlestown, in the Carolinas.

This painting depicts his sailing out of Bridgetown in Barbados, going around the island into the Atlantic where he spotted a mermaid near Bathsheba, on the eastern side of the island.

Jacob Strickler Fraktur

Jacob Strickler's earliest known work

Jacob Strickler
(1770-1842)
Jacob Strickler was a fraktur artist who lived in a primarily
Mennonite settlement known as Massanutten in Shenandoah County,
Virginia, now know as Page County.
Jacob Strickler is thought to have been a schoolmaster and
Mennonnite preacher. Approximately one dozen fraktur documents
are signed or attributed to him, these include birth certificates
and writing samples called vorschriften.
His earliest know work is a vorschrift inscribed
“Jacob Strickler living in Shenandoah County, Virginia, March 17, 1787.
Strickler’s most famouse fractures are
elaborately decorated floral compositions.
